Vol. 377 No. 9

Written Answers. - Liquor Off-Licences.

54.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of off-licence premises and supermarkets licensed to sell alcohol in the Republic; and the number of new licences granted in the last ten years.

Statistics of the types and numbers of intoxicating liquor off-licences issued in 1986 — the last complete year for which figures are available — are contained in Table 31 in the Sixty-Fourth Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners, a copy of which has been placed in the Oireachtas Library.

As one or more different types of off-licence may be held in respect of premises, the actual number of premises cannot be derived from the statistics of licences compiled by the Revenue Commissioners.

As regards new licences, records of licences issued are not maintained by the Commissioners in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be given.
