Vol. 377 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

88.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason full headage, suckler and calf premia were not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare; and when is it intended to pay the outstanding moneys.

There are no outstanding cattle grants due in this case. The person named applied for headage grants under the 1987 cattle and equines headage scheme on 51 animals, equivalent to 38.6 livestock units, and was paid for 30 livestock units which is the maximum entitlement under this scheme. He also applied for grants under the 1987 suckler cow, calf premium and special beef premium schemes on 10, 14 and 15 animals, respectively, and was paid full premium grants on all of these.

89.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Clare will receive payment for a grant for a road.

Payment of a grant under the farm improvement programme cannot be considered until the applicant:

(a) supplies evidence that farm accounts are being kept in the prescribed manner, and

(b) provides certain information regarding the employment of a contractor.

90.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a farm modernisation grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare.

A claim under the farm improvement programme for payment of a grant of £1,634 has been received and will be paid as soon as practicable. All claims under the programme are dealt with strictly in order of receipt. Payments are being phased in such a way as to ensure adherence to the amount provided in the Vote. Consequently there is some delay in making grant payments.

91.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when payment of a cattle headage grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named has been paid his 1987 cattle and equines headage scheme grants already and will be paid his 1987 EC special beef premium scheme grants shortly.

92.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when payment of cow grants will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named has been paid her 1987 calf premium and suckler cow schemes grants already and will be paid her 1987 cattle and equines headage scheme grant shortly.

93.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the extent of grants paid by his Department to farmers with: (a) under 50 acres; (b) over 50 acres but less than 100 acres; (c) over 100 acres but less than 150 acres; (d) over 150 acres but less than 200 acres; (e) over 200 acres but less than 250 acres; (f) over 250 acres but less than 300 acres; and (g) over 300 acres for the year ended 31 December 1987 and the comparable figures for the year ended 31 December 1986.

The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available and its compilation would involve a disproportionate amount of work which would not be justifiable.

94.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will pay a farm installation aid grant to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

Under the original scheme of installation aid for young farmers, which was terminated on 31 March 1987, an applicant had to meet certain requirements in relation to skill and competence at the time of installation on the farm. In this case, the applicant did not possess the required qualifications at the time of installation and was consequently deemed ineligible.

As announced in the budget, installation aid for young farmers is being reintroduced. Details of new arrangements are being drawn up as a matter of urgency and, following clearance by the EC Commission, will be announced as soon as possible. Pending that announcement, it is not possible to assess the eligibility of the person mentioned under the revised scheme.
