Vol. 378 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

70.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange for more regular weekly payments of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person concerned has been in receipt of disability benefit from August 1986 and his current entitlement is at the rate of £99.20 a week, the maximum rate appropriate to a married man with three dependent children.

Arrangements have now been made to have future disability benefit issued at weekly intervals on receipt of monthly certificates while he remains unfit for work.

An adjustment cheque covering the period 17 February 1988 to 27 February 1988 will be issued shortly. Future medical certificates should be submitted promptly every month in order to avoid any delay in issuing payment.

71.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an adult dependant increase will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath in view of the severe hardship involved; and when this benefit will be restored.

The person concerned has been in receipt of disability benefit since 24 September 1987 in respect of herself and five dependent children and is currently paid to 17 February 1988, the date of the latest medical evidence received in the Department.

She claimed an adult dependant increase in respect of her husband. This was not allowed as he was in receipt of unemployment assistance until 18 November 1987. However, payment of unemployment assistance was disallowed after that date as he was offered a job with the county council through the Job-search scheme, which he refused.

Inquiries are being made to establish the situation of the household and whether the husband can be regarded as an adult dependant. When these inquiries are completed, a decision will be given as soon as possible.

72.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be awarded an invalidity pension; and, if so, when.

The person concerned has been awarded invalidity pension from 13 August 1987. A pension order book payable from 24 March 1988 will be issued to the designated Post Office of payment.

Arrears in respect of the period from 13 August 1987 to 23 March 1988, less the amount of disability benefit paid during that period will be paid by payable order.
