Vol. 378 No. 3

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Scheme Payments.

115.

asked the Minister for Labour if his attention has been drawn to the fact that persons (details supplied) in County Meath were recruited to a Job-search scheme on Navan ramparts and told that they would qualify as married men for a rate of payment of £85 per week, that they received this for the first seven weeks, but were told after that period that they were no longer entitled to it, and that the amount extra paid in respect of their wives would be clawed back from them in future payments; if he has satisfied himself that it is fair or reasonable to make a retrospective deduction of this kind, in view of the fact that the money has been paid out and received in good faith and the recipients would have used the money over the period on the basis that they had title to it; and if he will arrange to ensure that the claw-back ceases and that they are allowed to receive the money in question for their wives in respect of the period up to the time that they were informed that they were not entitled to it.

The information sought by the Deputy is concerned with day-to-day activities of FÁS. I would suggest, therefore, that the Deputy contact FÁS direct in the matter.
