Vol. 378 No. 7

Written Answers. - Employment in Tallaght.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the economic initiatves which the Government plan to boost employment in Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The economic initiatives which the Government plan to boost employment in Tallaght as elsewhere, are set out clearly in the Programme for National Recovery. They consist of measures to improve the fiscal and monetary climate which will stimulate investment confidence and greater economic activity, maintain existing employment and create new employment.

The policy measures in relation to manufacturing employment include, inter alia, linking State aid more directly to employment so that disbursements will depend on the achievement of specific employment targets, and the provision of an effective new export service to indigenous companies through the new special trading houses.

In addition, as announced by the Minister for Finance in his Budget Statement, it is the Government's intention to designate an area in Tallaght for urban renewal incentives.

The location of manufacturing projects in specific areas is a matter for the day to day administration of the IDA. I am assured, however, that the IDA will continue to actively promote industrial development in the Tallaght area.
