Vol. 378 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

64.

asked the Minister for Finance in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin the amount of a tax rebate due to this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that since ceasing employment on 27 October 1987 the taxpayer has submitted three claims for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment. Cheques for £40.21 and £120.61 in settlement of the first two claims were issued on 11 December 1987 and 28 January 1988, respectively. A cheque for £80.40 in settlement of his third claim will be issued to the taxpayer shortly.

If the taxpayer remains unemployed, he may submit further claims for repayment of tax deducted.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of general practitioners who have applied for refunds under the 35 per cent retention tax proviso; the total sum involved in this area; the number of such refunds which have been made; and the amount of money which has been refunded.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not compiled in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking inquiries which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.
