Vol. 378 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Cork Harbour.

22.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will confirm that the necessary harbour improvements at Keelbeg, Union Hall, County Cork will be put in hand; and if he will give an up-to-date report on progress in relation to the report commissioned last year in connection with same.

24.

asked the Minister for the Marine the progress, if any, his Department have made in meeting the legitimate demands of Union Hall Fishermen's Co-operative for their proposed harbour development at Kilbeg, Union Hall, County Cork, contained in their commissioned report submitted by their association to him early last year; and in view of the inadequate landing facilities at that fishing port, if he will now sanction adequate finance for the proposed harbour development, as advocated by the fishermen's co-operative.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 24 together.

The consultants report commissioned by the Union Hall Fishermen's Co-operative Society dealt exclusively with development of Keelbeg pier adjacent to Union Hall in Glandore harbour. As the Union Hall fishing fleet is comprised, in the main, of boats from Keelbeg and Raheen in Castlehaven Bay I am having the overall position in regard to facilities for fishing boats in the Glandore and Castlehaven areas looked at. Before any development scheme can be drawn up surveys of the areas around Keelbeg and Raheen are necessary and I understand that the Office of Public Works have arranged to have these surveys carried out in the near future.

Until and agreed scheme is drawn up and costed I cannot say what the financing arrangements will be.
