Vol. 379 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical Council Register.

128.

asked the Minister for Health the reason 307 doctors have been removed from the Medical Council Register.

The names of 307 registered medical practitioners have been erased from the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council for failure to pay a retention fee to the council. The council is empowered by the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978, to maintain a register of medical practitioners and to charge an annual retention fee for maintaining registration. The council is also empowered to erase the names of medical practitioners who fail to pay the said retention fee.
