The EC Commission's proposals on harmonisation of indirect taxes are simply the starting point for detailed discussions and negotiations among the Member States. These discussions are still at an early stage and it is likely to be some time before a final package is agreed. Pending such agreement it is not possible to quantify the effect on the price of cars in this country.
