Vol. 379 No. 3

Written Answers. - Johnstownbridge (Kildare) Water Supply.

96.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate sufficient funds to Kildare County Council under the small water and sewerage schemes allocation to enable that body to provide an acceptable domestic water supply at Johnstownbridge, County Kildare; when, if at all, he will make an allocation under this heading; the amount involved; the amount required having regard to submissions received in respect of said scheme from Kildare County Council; if he has any other suggestions to resolve the serious problem of water quality in Johnstownbridge; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A proposal costing £19,000 to improve the water supply situation in Johnstownbridge was recently received in my Department and will be given sympathetic consideration. However, I am not in a position to indicate at this stage when a capital allocation, if any, will be made as the proposal must be examined in the light of demands for capital for other similar proposals and the limited capital available for these.
