Vol. 379 No. 3

Written Answers. - AIDS Virus.

122.

asked the Minister for Health if any instructions have been issued to health boards from his Department that would be of assistance to hospital employees in reducing the risk of contact with the AIDS virus.

A number of measures have been taken to inform health board personnel on how to protect themselves against the occupational risk of HIV transmission.

A booklet on AIDS outlining protective and preventive measures has issued to all doctors and dentists in the country.

A number of seminars on AIDS have been held by the Eastern Health Board and also by the Health Education Bureau to provide health care workers with information about AIDS. The Directors of Community Care and Medical Officers of Health have also held seminars locally for health care staff and for other groups. A significant number of health care personnel have now been trained and will provide a resource in their local areas for further AIDS education.

The Directors of Community Care in each health board area receive up-to-date information on the AIDS virus at regular intervals. Such information is therefore available to all health care workers through the directors of community care and medical officers of health who are the key resource personnel at local level.
