Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Labour Exchange.

65.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare his views on whether the provision of a labour exchange in the Blanchardstown/Mulhuddart area, Dublin 15 is an urgent requirement in view of the inconvenience and cost to the many unemployed in the area of getting to the Navan Road labour exchange; if he will outline his plans for a labour exchange for Blanchardstown; the date on which such a labour exchange will be opened; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The need for an employment exchange to facilitate claimants residing in the Blanchardstown and Mulhuddart area, County Dublin has been recognised by my Department and the Office of Public Works have been exploring the possibility of providing an employment exchange in the district.

The potential for the opening of a new employment exchange in the proposed new Blanchardstown town centre has been examined but in the light of the likely timescale for the completion of that project the feasibility of other options is being pursued in consultation with the Office of Public Works.

The Deputy will appreciate that at this stage I am unable to furnish him with a forecast as to when a new employment exchange will be operational.
