Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Infringment of EC Water Quality Legislation.

84.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cases for infringments which have been brought against Ireland for failure to respect EC water quality legislation.

It is assumed that by infringment proceedings the Deputy means cases where reasoned opinions have been delivered by the Commission under Article 169.

There is one such case involving failure to transpose into national law Directive 80/778 on the quality of water intended for human consumption. I intend to make the necessary regulations shortly.

I might mention that in a number of other cases letters have been received from the Commission seeking observations on aspects of implementation of other water quality directives.
