asked the Minister for Health if he will initiate an inquiry into the circumstances in which a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 was discharged from the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7 on 2 February 1988 at 2.30 p.m. and died just after midnight that same night; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The hospital authorities, having investigated this case informed me that the person concerned was admitted for treatment through the accident and emergency department on 25 January 1988. Having responded to treatment the person concerned was discharged on I February 1988.
The patient's condition had responded to treatment while in hospital and it was therefore agreed, following consultation with the patient's general practitioner and the public health nurse, that the patient would be discharged back home.
