Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Missing Medical Files.

129.

asked the Minister for Health in relation to replies to previous parliamentary questions by Deputy Jim Mitchell the present location of files of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who was an out-patient of Dr. Steeven's Hospital, Dublin 8, whose last appointment was on 6 October 1987, who was subsequently referred to the Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin 2 which he is attending at present and which hospital cannot locate his medical files; the action he proposes to take to sort out the confusion surrounding the missing files from Dr. Steeven's Hospital and to let current and past patients know where their medical files can be obtained for future reference; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Current medical records are available on request from Dr. Steeven's Hospital as required. It is the responsibility of each individual consultant to notify patients on their waiting lists of the arrangements which have been made for their continuing treatment.

In the case referred to by the Deputy, the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital have no record of the patient attending that hospital. The patient's medical records are available from Dr. Steeven's Hospital and there has been no request from any other hospital to transfer these records.
