Vol. 380 No. 3

Written Answers. - EC Placement Service.

23.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of people who have availed of the SEDOC Information Pack since it was first introduced; and if he has satisfied himself with the operation of the system.

The SEDOC system is the European Community Placement Service designed to assist the free movement of workers throughout the Community by giving job seekers access to vacancies in other European Community countries. Lists of vacancies in the member states are made available through the system and are displayed in all local FÁS offices. Suitable applications are sent by FÁS to the employment service of the member states notifying the vacancy for processing.

Statistics on the use of the SEDOC system are not readily available. I am arranging with FÁS to forward the required information to the Deputy as quickly as possible.

FÁS have a booklet entitled "Working Abroad" which contains useful information for persons intending to work abroad. This booklet is available from FÁS offices.

There is also an information pack aimed at young people which gives information about living and working conditions in European countries, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This pack is intended for use under the guidance of a FÁS placement or occupational guidance officer.
