As provided in the Programme for National Recovery, I asked FÁS to consider urgently the establishment of a co-operative development council. Following a major seminar which discussed this issue, FÁS is now finalising its thinking on the matter and will be reporting to me very soon.
FÁS will shortly be submitting to me the draft Memorandum and Articles of Association of the overseas company in accordance with the Labour Services Act, 1987. Pending the formal establishment of the company, a chief executive designate has been named from within FÁS and the proposed board of the subsidiary has met informally. No undue delay or major difficulty arose in the preparatory work associated with either project.
