Vol. 380 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rheumatology Services.

162.

asked the Minister for Health the places where persons with arthritis, who were previously treated at the out-patients' section of Dr. Steevens Hospital in Dublin 8, can now receive treatment; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that persons who were treated for arthritis at the outpatients' unit, prior to the closure of Dr. Steevens Hospital were told that they would be notified where they could obtain alternative treatment, but so far have received no information; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Responsibility and funding for rheumatology services previously provided by a consultant rheumatologist attached to Dr. Steevens Hospital were transferred to the MANCH group (Meath, Adelaide and National Childrens) and in particular to the Adelaide Hospital in order that its relationship with orthopaedic services which also transferred there could be maintained. Commencement of the service has been delayed due to difficulties which arose in relation to in-patient accommodation and back up facilities to be provided by the hospital for the consultant concerned. I am having the matter pursued with urgency.
