Vol. 380 No. 4

Written Answers. - Crumlin, Dublin, Children's Hospital Heart Operations.

165.

asked the Minister for Health the outcome of his Department's urgent discussions with the Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin 12; whether waiting lists for heart surgery will be reduced; and whether he has achieved his Department's objective of ensuring that the 1986 figures would be realised.

The discussions between my Department and Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin regarding this matter are ongoing. Because of the number of procedures carried out by the hospital in the first quarter of this year, I am now optimistic that at least the same level of output will be achieved in 1988 as in 1986. My Department and the hospital will keep this matter under review to ensure that at least the current level of output can be maintained.
