I have already provided the house with figures on bed closures on 9 February and 8 December last. The majority of these beds were closed as part of a long overdue rationalisation of bed numbers in the hospital system. Every effort will be made to reopen beds from the remaining number as are deemed necessary and as and when resources become available to do so.
