asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies abolished by him during his term of office to date; and the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies set up by him or proposed to be set up by him since taking office.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out below. I have no proposals at present for the establishment of any additional commissions, committees or State-sponsored bodies.

Dublin Transport Authority (a statutory body dissolved with effect from 1 January 1988 under the terms of the Dublin Transport Authority (Dissolution) Act, 1987.

The Authority had a range of specific functions relating to transport planning and funding, the operation of public transport and the man agement of traffic in the Dublin area.

B. Bodies Established

Dublin Transportation Task Force (recon- stituted in January 1988 to discharge, on a non- statutory basis, some of the functions of the former Dublin Transport Authority).

(a) To co-ordinate, on a non-statutory basis, traffic management and bus priority activities in the Dublin area, devising new schemes where appropriate;

(b) to settle annually the priorities for funding traffic management and bus priority schemes within its budget allocation in the Tourism and Transport Vote; and

(c) by these and other appropriate means to pursue the related aims of reducing traffic con gestion, especially at peak times, and promoting and facilitating the use of public transport ser vices.

Inter-Departmental Committee to Review Access to Road and Rail Transport for Mobility Handicapped Persons (a non-statutory body which began its work in April, 1988).

To review existing road and rail transport arrangements for disabled persons — and mobility handicapped persons generally — and to make recommendations for appropriate action, including any legislation deemed neces sary.

Tourism Task Force —established in January, 1988.

To bring forward recommendations to Govern ment on how the additional £4 million provided for tourism in the 1988 budget should best be allocated to achieve the greatest increase in tour ism revenue and visitor numbers in 1988. The Task Force completed their deliberations and made their recommendations to Government in early March.

Task Force on Roots-Genealogy and Tourism.

To recommend ways in which the tourism potential of the roots-genealogy area can be developed including:—

(a) access arrangements to basic roots-genea logical records; and

(b) organisation and marketing of appropriate tourism products, including specifically, relevant public sector activities.
