asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the major opposition to his decision under the Local Authority (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974 to allow the ESB erect a 38 kV overhead cable along the route of the western parkway motorway adjoining the Laurel Lodge Estate in Castleknock, Dublin 15; if he will direct that this cable be laid underground; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Two local groups lodged objections with me relating to this proposal. Before I decided this matter last month, officers of the two groups indicated to my Department that they would not press their objections further, on the understanding that certain landscaping and boundary treatment works would be implemented.
All interested parties which made submissions to me in the matter have been advised of my decision to give my consent to the relocation of the 38kV power line, overhead, along the eastern boundary of the Western Parkway. In reaching this decision, I considered all relevant aspects in pursuance of my functions under section 10 of the Local Government (Roads and Motorways) Act, 1974.
