While there is a wide range of community services available to the elderly, I accept that not enough attention has been given to the role of the family in caring for elderly persons. The role of carers is one of the issues which has been examined by the Working Party on Services for the Elderly. The working party have completed their report and will be presenting it to me shortly. The recommendations in this report will be examined by the Government as a matter of urgency.
