Vol. 382 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sexism and Sex Stereotyping in Education.

190.

asked the Minister for Education the budget which she has allocated for the elimination of sexism and sex stereotyping in education in 1988; the budget in each of the previous three years; and the way in which she plans to use this budget in 1988.

Budget provision for the elimination of sexism and sex stereotyping in education in 1988 amounts to £30,000. It will cover the following activities: (1) An action-research project involving girls in the new technologies; (2) Pilot intervention projects in physics and in chemistry. These projects will involve ten regions from September 1988. There was no specific budget allocation in this area in 1985. In 1986 an allocation of £100,000 was made. However, savings in the region of £70,000 were made following a direction from the then Minister.

An allocation of £60,000 was made in 1987 which was fully expended on activities at both national and international levels.
