Vol. 382 No. 1

Written Answers. - North Inner City Crime.

75.

asked the Minister for Justice in view of the amount of armed and violent crime within the north inner city recently, if he will increase the necessary protection for all the residents and shopkeepers by adding Garda presence.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a number of special measures have been and are being taken to deal with armed and violent crime in the Dublin Metropolitan Area as a whole and I am advised that a significant number of arrests of persons suspected of armed robbery and other violent crime have been made and a number of illegally held weapons have been seized.

As regards the question of an increased Garda presence in the north inner city area of Dublin, every effort is being made to have as many gardaí as possible on outdoor patrol duty in this and all other areas.
