asked the Minister for Education the funds which were allocated by the Government in 1987 and 1988 to the following areas of adult education: (a) teacher training (b) curriculum development (c) remedial (d) guidance and counselling and (e) policy development.

There are no specific funds allocated in either 1987 or 1988 in the areas mentioned. The total adult education budget for 1987 was £1,927,439 and in the 1988 Estimates the sum of £2,042,586.

asked the Minister for Education the total Government expenditure on adult education in 1987 and 1988; the way in which this figure is broken down; and the proportion of total education expenditure which this represents.

2. Expenditure by VECs on tuition fees is in the main matched by receipts for course fees.
