Vol. 382 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kilkenny Design Workshops.

64.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the State will guarantee all creditors of the Kilkenny Design workshops full payments of all accounts outstanding if the proposed sale of the shops in Dublin and Kilkenny goes ahead.

The settlement of debts incurred by Kilkenny Design Workshops Ltd. (KDW) is a matter for the company itself and I have no statutory powers to provide a State guarantee to the company's creditors.

The Deputy will be aware that a Supplementary Estimate was recently approved by the Dáil to enable a further £250,000 to be provided to the company so that trading could continue until its shops are sold. In moving that Estimate, I referred to the Government's concern to safeguard as far as possible the position of the many small companies and craft enterprises which have supplied goods to KDW.
