Nineteen eighty-five is the most recent year for which the results of the annual census of industrial production are available. This showed that there were 6,206 persons engaged in industrial establishments with three or more persons in all industry (NACE 14) in County Clare in September 1985. These figures do not include employment in some firms which make aggregate census returns covering all their establishments in different regions of the country.
Indications from the quarterly industrial sample inquiry are that employment in September 1986 was approximately 400 below this level, while September 1987 employment was a further 200 lower.
