Vol. 383 No. 7

Written Answers. - Civil Service Numbers.

73.

asked the Minister for Communications the total authorised establishment and total actual numbers of civil servants serving in his Department in each of the general Civil Service grades from clerical assistant to secretary on 1 September for each of the years 1985 to 1988 inclusive or on the latest date for which such information is available; and the total number taking all categories together, of civil servants authorised and serving in his Department on those dates.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following statement.

The figures for the years 1985 and 1986 are in respect of the then Department of Communications which combined the previous Transport portfolio and that of the residual Department of Posts and Telegraph following the assignment of responsibility for the operation of the postal and telecommunications services to An Post and Bord Telecom Éireann respectively.

The figures for 1987 reflect the creation of a separate Department of Communications with responsibility for postal, telecommunications, radio and broadcasting matters.
