The 1989 allocation for civil legal aid will not enable the Legal Aid Board to expand services under the scheme of civil legal aid and advice in 1989. But I hope that the board will be able to expand its services when the position of the public finances improves sufficiently. In this regard I would direct the Deputy's attention to my comments in this House on 20 October 1988 (Dáil Debates Vol. 383 No. 2 at Columns 385 and 386).
