Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - Closure of Post Office.

89.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare, in view of the widespread distress to elderly pensioners which would result in the event of a closure of the Clanbrassil Street Post Office, Dublin 8, if he will indicate the alternative plans he has to accommodate such persons, many of whom are infirm and are in fear of attack if they were forced to journey a greater distance.

The Department has been notified of the proposed closure of the post office at Clanbrassil Street, Dublin 8, on 30 November 1988.

The Department is writing to all pensioners and recipients of other social welfare payments who have been receiving their payments at Clanbrassil Street post office, asking them to nominate an alternative post office for receipt of payment.

The nearest alternative post offices at which social welfare payments may be collected are those at Upper Kevin Street, Harcourt Road (Richmond Street), Camden Street, Harold's Cross and Dolphin's Barn. These five post offices in the area are within a radius of half a mile or so from Clanbrassil Street. There are bus stops close to all of these post offices and old age and invalidity pensioners will, as usual, be able to avail of free travel when collecting their pensions.
