Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cherry Orchard (Dublin) Estate.

110.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, to facilitate proper planning and the consistent flow of refurbishment, he will indicate to Dublin Corporation the funds which will be available to them; and the dates and amounts of payments to be made to them for the refurbishment of the Cloverhill Estate, Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10 in order that a completion date for the refurbishment of the estate can be indicated to the residents.

The acceptance of a tender in respect of a pilot scheme for this estate was approved on 11 October 1988. Further phases of work will be conditional on a satisfactory cost and technical outturn to this project. A sum of £2.3 million was allocated this year to Dublin Corporation in respect of their estates at Cloverhill, Darndale, Fatima Mansions and St. Mary's Mansions. The apportionment of the allocation is a matter for the corporation. Authorities will be notified of their 1989 allocations as soon as possible. The actual level of funding that can be provided each year for individual projects will be dependent on the amount of capital available, the competing demands for assistance from other authorities, and the priorities accorded by the corporation to their various schemes. It is not possible, therefore, to give an indication of the likely timescale for completion of the Cloverhill Estate project.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, as a matter of urgency, he will approve the application by Dublin Corporation to treat all the houses in the Cloverhill Estate, Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10, whether tenant, tenant purchaser or purchaser occupied the same in their refurbishment programme which would be paid for by an equal weekly contribution from each house; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this proposal has the full support of the local community association; that the refurbishment scheme is about to commence; and that a decision is required immediately.

A proposal in this matter, which has been received from the corporation, is being examined. A decision will be conveyed to the authority as soon as possible.
