asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the additional milk quota he intends to seek for Ireland when the super-levy regime comes up for review, in light of the clause in the agreement which provides for preferential treatment for this country when additional milk production in the EC is justified.

The quota system which was introduced for the initial five year period in March 1984 has been extended for a further three years until 31 March 1992. The Commission are due to submit a further report to the Council on the operation of the system before the end of the 1990-91 marketing year. If the report is accompanied by proposals to extend the super levy system beyond March 1992, I will, of course, in that context be seeking the most favourable possible terms for Ireland.
