Over 600 new jobs have been created under the Government's programme for the development of the meat industry. Major investment programmes in the beef, sheepmeat and pigmeat sectors are under way and there has been a significant increase in the number of new projects for the expansion of processing in the industry. The strategy for the food and drink industry announced last December envisages the development of the industry over a five year period and I am satisfied that the overall job target outlined in the strategy will be achieved.
