asked the Minister for Health the reason national lottery funds have not been allocated to the Friends of Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, County Meath towards the purchase of a scanner which is required and for which they have been trying to raise funds for the past few years; if the decision to purchase the scanner has been altered as many people were led to believe a grant would be approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I have received a very considerable number of requests for assistance from the health allocation of the national lottery proceeds. It has been possible to accede to only a relatively small number of these requests because of the limited funds available. As the proceeds available for 1987 and 1988 have now been fully committed I regret that I am not in a position to make funds available to the Friends of Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, towards the purchase of a scanner from current allocations.
However, I will note the request for further consideration in connection with the allocation of lottery proceeds for health services in 1989.
