Vol. 384 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roscommon School Staffing.

91.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the serious difficulties which are likely to arise resulting from the placement of a teacher on the panel in a school (details supplied) in County Roscommon; if she will ensure that commitments made to amalgamated schools are recognised and implemented in this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery, the staffing of national schools in the current school-year is determined on the basis of the school enrolment on 30 September 1987.

The school in question had an enrolment of 101 pupils on 30 September 1987, and the appropriate staff for this number of pupils is three teachers.

The school does not qualify for a staffing concession under amalgamation rules.
