Planning of the proposed new 800 pupil community school for Cashel, County Tipperary is at an advanced stage. The bills of quantities have been received and following their clearance, the next stage would be the invitation to tender. However, the Cashel project, in addition to school building projects in Newcastlewest and Castlerea, has been included on a trial basis in a privatisation school building scheme in which my Department will seek private financing to build the three projects. Applications will now be invited by public advertisement from developers. It is not possible, therefore, to indicate the estimated cost of the school at this time nor am I in a position to say when construction will commence or when it will be completed.
A schedule of accommodation is attached which indicates the facilities which will be made available at the new community school. This schedule provides for the full range of subjects at both junior and senior levels in accordance with the Rules and Programmes for Secondary Schools.
