Vol. 384 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mullingar (Westmeath) Land Registry Office.

76.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is proposed to computerise the Land Registry in Mullingar, County Westmeath; its present position on the list for the computerisation of local land registry offices; and when work will commence in this regard as a matter of priority.

A programme of computerisation of the Land Registry folio database commenced in 1982 with a pilot project in the Dublin region. This project was completed in 1986 and all of the folios for the County Dublin area are now computerised.

In 1987, work commenced on the computerisation of the folio database in the western region, which comprises Counties Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Clare. In conjunction with the extension of the programme to the western region an examination is being made of the requirements and long term strategies in relation to the Land Registry's 25 local offices, including Mullingar.

Available staff and resourses will be committed to the Western Region programme for at least the next two years after which a decision will be made on the choice of the next county or region for computerisation.
