Vol. 384 No. 7

Written Answers. - Power Lines.

22.

asked the Minister for Energy if the report which he commissioned regarding the possible health hazard associated with power lines currently being erected by the ESB in County Wicklow and elsewhere in the country is to hand; if he proposes to publicise same, when he proposes to do so; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

23.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will ask the ESB not to energise the power lines on the new Arklow-Carrickmines network, County Wicklow, before there is a public discussion on the review of the health hazards connected with such power lines as promised in a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 65 of 28 January 1988.

31.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will publish the review of the reports on the health hazards connected with over-head power lines such as the Arklow-Carrickmines line in County Wicklow which he has had carried out; by whom this review was conducted; and when it was completed.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22, 23 and 31 together.

The review of relevant published reports into the alleged health effects of the electromagnetic fields produced by high voltage power lines which is being conducted by the chief technical adviser in my Department will shortly be submitted to me. I will consider the question of publication in due course but I can assure the Deputy that the line will not be energised until I have considered the report's findings.
