asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the amount of money provided for in 1988 and 1989 for (1) press and information activities and (2) public relations; and to whom this money is payable.

The amounts provided for my Department, on press and information activities, in the years 1988 and 1989 were £75,000 and £90,000 respectively.

The bulk of this expenditure, which is payable under the advertising and publicity subhead of my Department's Vote, would arise from advertising, and production of information leaflets/ publications and be payable to newspapers, other publications, and printing firms.

No provision was made for public relations expenditure.

asked the Minister for Communications the amount of money provided for in 1988 and 1989 for (1) press and information activities and (2) public relations; and to whom this money is payable.

The 1988 and 1989 Estimates for the Department of Communications include provisions of £8,000 and £15,000 respectively in respect of expenditure on press and information activities relating to the Department's statutory functions.

There is no provision for expenditure on public relations activities.
