Officers of the regional fisheries boards are at present designated as "authorised officers" under the Fisheries Acts and may inspect fish farms. By liaising efficiently with the boards my Department aims to ensure that the resources available to all agencies involved are used to best effect and that information is communicated effectively.
The Deputy will be aware that I announced on 4 November last my intention to have a review carried out of all aspects of acquaculture management and the role and responsibilities of the regional fisheries boards are elements which should be examined in this context.
