Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Wexford Industrial Development.

66.

asked the Minister for Finance whether designation of County Wexford for industrial purposes will give access to Wexford to the central development committee and to the western development fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

74.

asked the Minister for Finance if the industrial designation of County Wexford in May 1988 allows access to the central development committee and the western development fund thereby ensuring similar treatment for County Wexford to that enjoyed by existing designated counties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 66 and 74 together. The Central Development Committee was set up in 1962 to co-ordinate the activities of County Development Teams which were established to promote economic development in Western Counties as a result of recommendations in the 1962 report of the Interdepartmental Committee on the Problems of Small Western Farms. The Western Development Fund was set up to assist the Central Development Committee and the County Development Teams in that task.

There is no connection between the designation of an area for the purposes of the Industrial Development Acts and the inclusion of that area within the scope of the Central Development Committee. The question of granting County Wexford access to that committee does not therefore arise.
