Proposals for development of the Royal Canal are included in the report on the Grand and Royal Canals prepared by planning consultants for the Commissioners of Public Works and published in February 1988. Development of the canals is one of many projects under consideration for inclusion in the submission to the European Commission for support from the EC Structural Funds.
