In accordance with the provisions of section 2 (6) of the Vital Statistics and Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act, 1952, the Central Statistics Office, on behalf of my Department, compile statistics from the returns of births, deaths and marriages which are registered in the State. The latest available figures from that office on persons in the category referred to by the Deputy are for the year 1986. The following table gives the details for the three years up to and including 1986.
