The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Bill, which was introduced in the Dáil on 15 December 1988, will extend legislative protection to all workers. The Bill has as one of its main objectives the reduction in the incidence of accidents and ill health at work.
The figures for accidents at work are not broken down by occupation or region. The figures for 1988 are not yet available. The numbers of accidents notified during 1985, 1986 and 1987, broken down by type of workplace, were as follows:
