Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - Redeployment Proposals. Deployment of Cork Secondary School Teachers.

269.

asked the Minister for Education if she will reverse the decision made by her Department to place three members of the staff of the North Presentation Secondary School, Farranree, Cork on the panel for redeployment, taking into consideration the disadvantaged nature of the area in which the school is located.

The redeployment scheme for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools is the result of an agreement between the Religious-Clerical Authorities of the Catholic Secondary Schools and the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland.

The agreement establishes agreed procedures by which lay teachers are redeployed to full time teaching posts within mutually agreed deployment boundaries in the event of a closure of a secondary school or where the number of teachers who may be paid incremental salary is required to be reduced in accordance with the Rules for the Payment of Incremental Salary to Secondary Teachers.

Under the terms of the scheme, the authorities of this school have submitted an appeal to my Department against the redeployment of teachers from the school. The appeal is being considered at present and I will arrange to have the outcome communicated to the Deputy as soon as possible.
