Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - New School Buildings.

282.

asked the Minister for Education the second level schools for which new buildings have been provided in each of the past two years; and the specific needs which existed in each case which justified this provision.

283.

asked the Minister for Education (a) the number of existing or newly established post-primary schools for which new buildings of substantial cost, that is over £100,000 were provided in the years (a) in 1985 (b) 1986 (c) 1987 and (d) 1988; the names of such schools; and the present enrolment of such schools as indicated in their most recent returns to her Department.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 282 and 283 together. The detailed information sought by the Deputy needs to be compiled and the time available to my Department is not adequate for this purpose. Accordingly I will write to him in due course with the information required.

As regards the existence of need for new accommodation a written reply which I made to him on 15 November 1988 sets out the main criteria governing the provision of new buildings for existing or newly established post-primary schools. The circumstances of all schools provided with new buildings have been in conformity with the main criteria set out in that reply.
