asked the Minister for Justice, arising out of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 41 of 7 December 1988, in relation to the parking of cars, if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there has been no improvement evident; that gardaí continue to leave their cars (details supplied) at the location in question; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

62.
There is no legal prohibition at present on parking in Fr. Matthew Square.
I understand from the Garda authorities that they will examine with Dublin Corporation ways in which any problem which parking in the square causes for residents might be alleviated, including the possibility of prohibiting parking in the square. If such a prohibition were to be introduced it would, of course, apply to parking not only by members of the Garda Síochána but by the public generally, including residents of the square.
Pending the outcome of this examination, the Garda authorities have requested member of the Force not to park in this square.
