Vol. 387 No. 10

Written Answers. - National Lottery Fund Allocations.

154.

asked the Minister for Education the allocations, if any, which were made by her Department from national lottery funds to the Dublin 9 area.

155.

asked the Minister for Education the allocations, if any, which were made by her Department from national lottery funds to the Dublin 11 area.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 154 and 155 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the beneficiary compendium issued by the National Lottery Authorities which lists the grant allocations on a county basis for my Department's Capital Grant Scheme for the Provision of Recreational Facilities.

Under my Department's schemes of assistance to sport, from the national lottery funds, grants are made available to vocational education committees to assist in the promotion of youth and sport activities at local level. These committees in turn, allocate grants to voluntary youth and sport clubs in their administrative areas to assist towards the cost of equipment, training, administration and the organisation of special projects. Clubs in the Dublin 9 and 11 areas have benefited from the grants made available to the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. A special fund exists in my Department for the development of special services to disadvantaged young people. Grants from this fund are allocated in support of local and national initiatives through national youth organisations, vocational education committees or other approved agencies, on the basis of recommendations made by an inter departmental committee which was set up for this purpose. I would refer the Deputy to the national lottery beneficiary compendium which gives all the grant allocations under the aforementioned fund in 1988.

No allocations have yet been made from this fund in 1989 as no decision has been announced as to the extent of the budget for youth affairs for this year.
