Vol. 388 No. 3

Written Answers. - Lease of Business Equipment.

90.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will estimate the value of business equipment currently on lease in Dublin city; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that when equipment is found to be faulty or defective the lessee has no protection or cover from the leasing company, who must in any event continue with the repayments, and in many cases is forced to purchase additional new equipment at very great expense.

There are no official statistics available on the value of business equipment currently on lease in Dublin city. In regard to leasing transactions, the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act, 1980, does not provide protection to persons acting in the course of business. Contracting parties are advised to exercise due prudence before entering into transactions of this nature.
